A vegetarian festival might sound pretty boring, but head to Phuket in southern Thailand and you'll experience what will likely be one of the most surreal experiences of your life. Crazy facial piercings (knives, guns, spikes, even bike tire pumps!), other types of self-mutilation, and a lot of fireworks happen over the course of the Nine Emperor Gods Festival.
