Killing time in downtown Sydney after arriving a couple days prior to cruise departure. This also has some shots from the top deck of the cruise ship as we departed from White Bay and sailed through Sydney Harbour under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and past the Syndey Opera House.
A day trip to Parc Zoologique Et Forestier Michel Corbasson, which had a large assortment of (captive) endemic New Caledonia birds. The highlight was the kagu (pictured in the thumbnail), the national bird of New Caledonia.
My trip to Myanmar (aka Burma) involved time in the ancient capital Bagan with its 2,200 temples, the modern capital (up until 2006) Yangon with the famous Shwedagon Pagoda and British colonial buildings, and day trips to Taung Kalat (Mount Popa) and Bago. I was fortunate to take this trip in January 2016 - in August of that year a 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit central Myanmar and severely damaged or destroyed 400 temples at Bagan.
Photos from both my 2017 first-time trip and a 2018 follow-up trip to see the cherry blossoms (which was a bit of a letdown since they bloomed earlier than usual and I missed most of the peak-bloom period). Plenty of time in both Tokyo and Kyoto, side trips to Himeji and Nara, and a few days at Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea.
Peru was the first half of a combo Peru/Ecuador/Galapagos trip. Started out in Cusco, where by pure luck we were there for the Corpus Christi Festival, before heading to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu (my sixth of the Seven Wonders of the World). Then off to Ecuador and the Galapagos before returning for a quick stop in Lima en route back home.
Just a quick stop in Quito before flying out to the Galapagos Islands. Wandered around downtown, visited a tulip farm, and visited the Equator for the second time (but first time in the western hemisphere).
After attending Star Wars Celebration Europe, went on a quick road trip to Bath and Windsor with half day trips to Bristol and Stonehenge.
A city full of modern skyscrapers that look like they belong on a Star Wars set.
Featuring photos of fried bat and fried starfish on a stick.
Xi'an, the Terra Cotta Warriors, Yangshuo, and Guilin.
A city that's interesting during the day, and absolutely gorgeous at night.
Very similar to Las Vegas - pretty dull during the day but all lit up at night.
Featuring Victoria Harbour and a goldfish market.
Home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Christ the Redeemer.
Famous for all the Oscar Niemeyer architecture.
Home to a lot of interesting graffiti.
A city dominated by Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.
Puerto Plata and Santo Domingo.
Just a few shots taken during a quick stop.
Sydney Harbour and the Coogee to Bondi Coastal Walk.
Waffles and the crazy Atomium.
Home to the Giraffe Center and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (baby elephants!) in Nairobi.
Welcome to Buddhist Hell (seriously).
